Ana Kupresanin directs the Scientific Data (SciData) Division in the Computing Sciences Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab). SciData Division transforms data-driven discovery and understanding through the development and application of novel data science methods, technologies, and infrastructures with scientific partners. SciData builds data infrastructure, emphasizing FAIR data principles and cybersecurity; it integrates machine learning with high performance computing; and fosters partnerships with domain scientists, addressing the challenges of analyzing present and future experimental, observational, and simulation data.

Kupresanin’s primary research is dedicated to crafting advanced statistical and machine learning models that seamlessly integrate real-world variability and probabilistic behavior. Her work is focused on collaborating with scientists and engineers to develop statistical methods for uncertainty quantification within engineering and physics models, forging a path towards more accurate and reliable insights in these fields.

Kupresanin joined Berkeley Lab in October 2023 from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where she was a principal statistician, associate division director of Center for Applied Scientific Computing and deputy program director for Computational Physics. Her work has been recognized through two NNSA Defense Programs Awards of Excellence. She received her Ph.D. in Statistics from Arizona State University, M.S. in Applied Statistics from the University of Pittsburgh, and B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Zagreb, Croatia.

Kupresanin is currently program chair-elect for Statistics in Defense and National Security section of the American Statistical Association and serves as statistician on several DOE panels and working groups.
