A Science Engagement Engineer at NERSC, Lipi works to help users engage with NERSC staff and with each other to bridge gaps in scientific computing. She is interested in improving the new user experience, as well as helping graduate students make better use of NERSC resources in preparation for their careers.
Rebecca Hartman-Baker leads the User Engagement Group at NERSC. She is a computational scientist with expertise in the development of scalable parallel algorithms for the petascale and beyond. Her other research interests include inverse and ill-posed problems, numerical optimization methods, and developing effective techniques for training users of HPC resources.
Charles Lively III, PhD is a Science engagement engineer and HPC Consultant in the User Engagement Group (UEG) under Dr. Rebecca Hartman-Baker at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing (NERSC) Center at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Charles previously worked at other Department of Energy National Laboratories, including Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Helen He is a high performance computing consultant in the NERSC User Engagement Group. She is currently the NERSC user training lead. In this role, she leads efforts to strategically plan, host, and develop user training events to provide knowledge to users on resource familiarization, optimized utilization, and skills development for effectively using NERSC resources.
Sarah McGinn is the Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) Program Manager, also referred to as the Division Safety Coordinator (DSC) for the Computer Sciences Area. She supports all aspects of EHS, including accident prevention, computer ergonomics, electrical safety, chemical hygiene, and hazardous waste compliance, to name a few. Sarah has worked at LBNL for six years and prior to the Lab she worked in the structural steel construction, food manufacturing, and solar energy industries.
Eileen Dawson, Ph.D., handles the day-to-day activities and operations of the Quantum Systems Accelerator. Prior to joining LBL, Eileen had been the Operations Director for The Center for Materials for Water and Energy Systems, an Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC). Dr. Dawson brings more than 11 years of academic research experience focusing on biomedical engineering technologies as well as 3 years of industrial experience.
Bert de Jong serves as the Department Head for Computational Sciences, and leads the Applied Computing for Scientific Discovery Group, which advances scientific computing by developing and enhancing applications in key disciplines, as well as developing tools and libraries for addressing general problems in computational science. de Jong is also the Director of the Quantum Systems Accelerator, which is part of the National Quantum Initiative.
Dani Ushizima, Ph.D., is a SENIOR Scientist at Berkeley Lab, also Affiliated Faculty with the Bakar Institute at UC San Francisco, and Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS) at UC Berkeley. She leads the Machine Learning (ML) team for the Center of Advanced Mathematics for Energy Research Applications (CAMERA) at LBNL. Since 1996, Ushizima has investigated, developed and deployed advanced algorithms to extract information from scientific data for decision making. Together with her team at Berkeley Lab, they develop computer vision software that exploits unique ML and datasets from microscopes (e.g. X-ray, electron, tomography) for quantitative analysis.
