Research Spotlight Talk: Global Warming and Extreme Weather (Michael Wehner).
Research Spotlight Talk: Cosmological Simulations in the Age of AI (Zarija Lukić).
Featured Speakers: Michael Wehner (Group Lead, Sustainable Software Engineering Group, SciData Division) and Zarija Lukić (Computational Staff Scientist/Engineer, AMCR Division).
Zarija Lukić is a staff scientist and the group lead of the Computational Cosmology Center at LBL. Zarija's research focuses on developing simulation and ML/AI methods for modeling and interpreting complex physical systems: building codes that can efficiently run on the largest supercomputers, as well as methods for extracting cosmological insights using simulations and observational data from sky surveys.
Michael Wehner’s current research concerns the behavior of extreme weather events in a changing climate, especially heat waves, intense precipitation, drought and tropical cyclones. Before joining the Berkeley Lab in 2002, Wehner was an analyst at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Program for Climate Modeling Diagnosis and Intercomparison.
